KiviCrypt - AES Encryption IP Cores for FPGA and ASIC

Protecting data with AES

The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is used to protect data in embedded systems, communication links and storage applications. The choice of operating mode determines whether encryption also provides authentication.

Authenticated encryption with AES-GCM

AES-GCM combines encryption with an authentication tag. It protects the confidentiality of data and enables the recipient to detect unauthorized changes. Choose AES-GCM when both properties are required in one cryptographic operation.

Encryption with AES-CTR

AES-CTR encrypts and decrypts data using Counter Mode. It provides confidentiality, but does not authenticate the data. Choose AES-CTR when authentication is provided separately or the system architecture calls for encryption as a distinct function.
